The former Brazilian president detained after being deemed a risk of fleeing
The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.
The ex-president was convicted of planning a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.
Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the 70-year-old politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.
This involved attempting to break his electronic bracelet and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.
Court Filing Details Escape Risks
In a filing authorising the custody, the magistrate said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's "intention to break the tracking monitor to ensure success in his flight.
This, it said, would be assisted by the disorder caused by the protest called by his child.
His offspring, Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a assembly of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.
The senator wrote on online platforms on Friday: Will you battle for your country, or watch it all from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to struggle with us."
He said the vigil would be so supporters could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our country."

Context of Sentencing
